A general dentist is similar to a primary care doctor; you may occasionally see a specialist, but you know you can count on one trusted professional to oversee all your oral health needs. Drs. Carl and Scott Herring focus on providing you with all the treatments and services that are necessary to achieve and maintain the healthiest smile possible. Our doctors will work with you to understand your concerns and priorities and create a treatment plan designed just for your unique needs.

Testimonial

I hate going to the Dentist.

I hate going to the Dentist. I have a long history of bad teeth. Elgin Family Dental put me at ease and was absolutely wonderful in my treatment plan. I will be returning and consider this my Primary Dental Office. I wish I would have found them sooner.

Prevention – The Key to a Healthy Smile

Optimal oral health has many benefits and can even improve your quality of life. But you can’t hope to have a problem-free smile without routine preventive services like exams and professional cleanings.

During your preventive visits we look for signs of decay or infection that might be developing without your knowledge. Finding and treating minor problems early is significantly easier than waiting and facing conditions that threaten your oral health and cause pain and discomfort.

Technology plays a significant role in this process; intraoral cameras help you see what’s happening on the outside of your teeth, and digital x-rays let us see inside the tooth where most problems start.

Dental Restorations Return Your Smile to Health

There is a possibility that if you have taken excellent care of your oral health your entire life, you may never need a dental restoration. But most of us will, and at Elgin Family Dental we offer tooth-colored fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, and implant crowns so we can customize a treatment plan to get your oral health back on track.

Root canals have a bad reputation, but it’s time to put that myth to rest - root canal treatment does not cause pain, they relieve it. Our patients often remark that their treatment was stress-free and far more comfortable than they imagined.

We don’t take extractions lightly, and they are a last-resort solution when all other attempts to save the tooth have failed. You can be confident that our caring team will provide all the support you need during your procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are many factors beyond oral hygiene that impact the health of your smile. If you are brushing and flossing routinely, you’re on the right track. But if you are serious about avoiding cavities, your efforts must be combined with preventive cleanings and exams to be most effective.

During these routine appointments, we offer a comprehensive exam including an oral cancer screening. We will also discuss other factors that impact your oral health including dry mouth, the medications you take, whether or not you smoke, your diet, and even the part genetics play.

If your x-rays aren’t current, we may take new ones to identify and diagnose new problems that might be developing within your teeth or under your gums. We may also recommend fluoride varnish or dental sealants to provide further protection from cavities.

There are many ways we can help you avoid cavities, and the best place to start is with an appointment for a cleaning and exam at our Elgin, TX dental office. We’ll evaluate the current condition of your teeth so we can treat any problems before they become complicated and costly to treat.
